Meet Our Founder: Sherri Rhoten

CEO & Mental Health Advocate

Sherri Rhoten emerged from her struggles as a spiritual warrior, guided by her unwavering faith in God. Her journey was not just about overcoming personal demons; it was a profound exploration of healing through divine strength, destined to inspire others.

Facing her fears head-on, Sherri transformed her pain into strength. Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, she embraced her rebirth with newfound wisdom, illuminating her path. Each scar became a testament to her resilience, fueling her desire to help others find their way through the shadows.

Recognizing the power of vulnerability, Sherri shares her story authentically, creating bonds with those feeling lost in their struggles. Her words encouraged others to confront their fears and embrace their healing journeys while trusting in God’s plan. By sharing her experiences, she inspired hope and connection in many hearts.

Through her work, Sherri built a supportive community rooted in love and faith, guiding others to see
healing as a journey rather than a destination. Each step taken in adversity became an opportunity for
growth and self-discovery.

Emphasizing self-care and mindfulness, inspired by her relationship with God, Sherri explored practices such as meditation and prayer to maintain balance. This commitment to her healing allowed her to be a beacon for others, guiding them toward transformation.

As a passionate mental health advocate, Sherri is the Founder and CEO of Surrendered Souls, providing vital sober living solutions in Southern New Mexico. She is dedicated to making a positive impact and empowering individuals to reach their full potential.

Sherri draws on her personal journey to advocate for mental health awareness. Living with ADHD, PTSD, and Anxiety Disorder, she shares her experiences to help others understand the complexities of mental health challenges. After moving to New Mexico, she recognized a significant lack of mental health services, fueling her commitment to effect change.

Sherri's journey through mental illness stems from a childhood marked by trauma, leading her to self-medicate at a young age. Her struggles resulted in numerous hospital stays and moments of despair, but in August 1998, Sherri found her path to recovery. This transformative experience empowered her to prioritize her mental health and rebuild her life through healthier coping strategies, strong support networks, and open conversations about mental health within her family.

A recognized leader, Sherri currently serves as an executive officer on the Local Collaborative 3 (LC3) and has served on the New Mexico Public Education Department Secretary's Family Advisory Council and completed a family peer support worker certification program. She graduated from UNM's Partners in Policymaking, an Advocacy and Disability Leaders Program, and previously served as State President of NAMI New Mexico.

Through her advocacy, Sherri collaborates with others to reduce stigma and promote systemic changes that enhance the quality of life for individuals and families facing mental health challenges. Her message of hope and resilience continues to inspire, as she strives to illuminate paths for others.

Sherri Rhoten’s journey underscores the importance of mental health awareness and advocacy, embodying
the transformative power of support, education and empowerment. Together with her community, she seeks to create a world where mental health is understood, accepted, and supported.
